Modern Empire are pleased to announce a collaboration with Russell Maurice and Hole Editions to develop a new print edition. Russell works in painting, drawing and sculpture, creating and retelling tales of unlikely animate objects that seem to exist within their own realm, a spirit world filled with alchemical magic. He is developing a set of works for Modern Empire that feature some of those characters.
For this new Modern Empire print edition, Russell will be working with Lee Turner at Hole Editions in Newcastle. Lee is a Master Printer trained at The Tamarind Institute in Albuqurque, New Mexico, specialising in Lithography. We visited his studio earlier this week and were hugely impressed by the collaborative work he undertakes with a broad range of artists.
Maurice studied Graphic Design at Epsom Institute, graduating in 1998. He completed an MA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, London in 2010. In the same year his work was included in New Contemporaries at A Foundation, Liverpool and ICA, London. Recent exhibitions include two-man shows at Sons of Studio, Copenhagen and Friend & Co., Bristol.
Maurice's limited edition prints will launch in early Summer at an exhibition of Modern Empire works. Full details to follow.
